Unhand Piermont!: Nate Mitchell's Milquetoast Mailing.

Below is the two-sided postcard mailed out by Nate Mitchell’s mayoral campaign this past week, received by many Piermont, New York residents. It’s essentially the same content that Mitchell already circulated via social media:

By now, you know it as well as I do. Watching Nate Mitchell and Kevin Timoney campaign against each other for Piermont mayor, is like watching two Cub Scouts throw creampuffs at each other at Camp Alpine.

In a word – ridiculous.

Yet whether you like it or not, Piermont is gritty, adversarial real estate. Real special interests continue to seek economic advantage over village residents at village resident expense, and game the system. These special interests seek to pad their own pockets while feeding their own turgid egos. This is no time for a mayoral candidate to campaign via hot tub diplomacy. Rather and instead, this is the time when the mayoral candidates must actually grapple with the tough issues facing Piermont and its future, and answer the tough questions. If either Piermont mayoral candidate is unwilling or unable to do that, then they should simply cede the all-important public-official function to the other candidate, step out of the race, and get out of the way.

Below is a list of questions that Piermont residents should pose to mayoral candidate Nate Mitchell, and for which Mitchell’s clear and unequivocal answers should be demanded - immediately:

1. 447, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific things did you already do, if anything, to halt the destructive overdevelopment intended for 447-477 Piermont Avenue, 505 Piermont Avenue, and elsewhere in the Village?

2. 447, As Mayor. As Mayor, what specific things will you do to halt the destructive overdevelopment intended for 447-477 Piermont Avenue, 505 Piermont Avenue, and elsewhere in the Village?

3. Gasoline Tanks, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific things did you already do, if anything, to cause the excavation of any underground gasoline tanks at 447-477 Piermont Avenue and otherwise environmentally remediate the site?

5. CBM Zone, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific steps did you already take, if any, to void out “Local Law 4” which purported to create the Central Business Multi-Use zoning district (“CBM Zone”) in March 2023?

6. CBM Zone, As Mayor. As Mayor, what specific things will you do to wipe the CBM Zone and Local Law 4 off of the Piermont books permanently?

7. Litigation Spending, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific actions did you already take, if any, to oppose the outrageous six-figure mayoral spend by Bruce Tucker on senseless litigation against Piermont’s own taxpaying citizen residents and for political witch-hunting?

8. Litigation Spending, As Mayor. As Mayor, what specific things will you do to prevent village spends on senseless litigation against Piermont’s own taxpaying citizen residents and for political witch-hunting?

9. Comptroller Audit, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific role have you played, if any, in the ongoing Audit by the Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) of the Village of Piermont’s finances and outgoing Mayor Bruce Tucker – and why have you not disclosed that role to Piermont’s own taxpaying citizen residents already? Why have you not kept your constituents informed about the status and the progress of the OSC Audit, particularly since it is their money that is involved?

10. Comptroller Audit, As Mayor. As Mayor, what specific things will you do to make amends with respect to any findings resulting from the ongoing OSC Audit of the Village of Piermont’s finances and outgoing Mayor Bruce Tucker - and why have you not disclosed those intentions to Piermont’s own taxpaying citizen residents already, particularly since it is their money that is involved?

11. Fire Department Hazing, In The Past. Given that you became a member of the Piermont Fire Department circa 2005; given that a 16-year-old volunteer fireman alleged in court filings and via the media through his father to have been forcibly restrained and sodomized at the Piermont Fire Department firehouse in 2010 as part of a “rite of passage” initiation thereafter leading to apparent criminal charges and civil litigation brought against three other firemen; given that those three alleged sex-abusers at last check appear to be still listed as members of the Piermont Fire Department on the Piermont Fire Department Internet website; and given that at least one of them is also listed as currently employed by the Village of Piermont – what actual measures have the Village of Piermont and the Piermont Fire Department taken since the litigated incidents, if any, to eliminate violent sexual hazing of new recruits? What actual measures have you taken since then, if any, to prevent any violent sexual hazing of new Piermont Fire Department recruits?:

As Mayor, what further measures will you implement to ensure the extinction of violent sexual hazing of new recruits and other misconduct by members of the Piermont Fire Department and other affiliates of Piermont village government? Why have you and the Piermont Fire Department apparently not made a clear written statement to this effect available to the public, already?

13. Flooding, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, or in any other of your official capacities, what specific steps have you taken, if any, to combat the regular flooding of the village necessitating some residents to build or rebuild their own houses on stilts?

14. Flooding, As Mayor. As Mayor, what further measures will you implement to combat the regular flooding of the village necessitating some residents to build or rebuild their houses on stilts? What measures did outgoing Mayor Bruce Tucker fail to take that could have been taken? In your view, did Tucker deliberately suppress visible flooding-remediative steps so as to create the appearance of greater development viability in the hopes of artificially-enhancing village real estate-related revenue?

15. Negative Net Position, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific steps have you taken, if any, towards preventing the Village from going almost ten million dollars into Net Position retrograde? What if any public statements did you make to taxpaying village residents to warn them about Piermont's distressed financial condition?

16. Negative Net Position, As Mayor. As Mayor, what further measures will you implement to prevent the Village from going even further into Net Position retrograde? What specific steps will you actually take to re-direct the Village of Piermont towards economic stability, economic health, and a positive Net Position?

17. Familial Relationships. As a candidate for Mayor of Piermont, what if any concerns do you have that your opponent in the mayoral race is married to a husband who at last check works for a commercial real estate company? Does this fact at all exacerbate your concerns about the future or imminent overdevelopment of the Village of Piermont?

18. Transparency, As Trustee. In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific steps have you taken, if any, to make Village actions more transparent in full view of taxpaying citizen residents? Why did Village of Piermont actions remain so opaque during your (several) tenures as Trustee?

In your current albeit historically-discontinuous position in Piermont village government as Trustee, what specific steps did you take, if any, to ensure that all non-profit and other entities associated with the Village such as the Piermont Historical Society, Piermont Civic Association, and “Piermont Democratic Committee” were each acting in a lawful and appropriate manner?
